Hardware Discription
Introduction:
The following document explains the purposes and connections of the
hardware utilized in the creation of the Home Security &
Lighting System. The various components are all essential to the
operation of the unit as a whole, and would not be able to stand
alone without them. The purpose of each of these components as well
as a detailed description as to the pin assignments is given in the
following sections.
Microcontroller:
The microcontroller utilized by the Home Security &
Lighting System, marked with a designator of U1 on the diagram, is
the FM6124. This microcontroller has been chosen because it has
plenty of I/O pins to accommodate the various ICs and functions,
and as well because it possesses adequate memory for the software
that will be utilized to enable the functionality of the system.
Light Sensor:
The light sensor represented by the designator U2 is a TSL230R-LF.
It uses internal circuitry to convert the intensity of light
measured by the circuit into an output frequency that can be read
by the microcontroller.
Keypad:
They keypad is a 4x4 or 16 button keypad. The pull up resistors are
tied to the 4 columns, while the 4 rows are tied directly to the
microcontroller.
LCD:
The project will need to utilize a 4x20 LCD to communicate with the
user.
